On Wednesday, 3 September, the Libyan Centre for Research and Studies published a new book entitled Tours of the Mediterranean Countries during the Years 1845-1847 by German traveller Heinrich Bart. Translated by Professor Dr. Imad al-Din Ghanem, may God have mercy on him, and compiled, arranged, and reviewed by Professor Dr. Nasr al-Din al-Bashir al-Arabi, as part of a series of translated books, the book is 608 pages long and is being printed for the first time.
This book is a scientific study of the coasts of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya, from the city of Tangier to Alexandria, with a particular focus on the Libyan coast, given that Europeans at the time considered some of its areas to be unknown, especially Sirte. It is therefore not surprising that he included a 17-page margin providing geographical and historical information, which in itself is a very in-depth survey of information related to Sirte during that period.
