The Libyan Centre for Research and Studies organises the Seventh International Conference on Historical Studies

The Libyan Center for Research and Studies organizes the Seventh International Conference for Historical Studies (Libyan-Russian Relations: 70 Years of Cooperation):
The capital, Tripoli, witnessed today a prominent academic and scientific event, the launch of the Seventh International Conference for Historical Studies, entitled (Libyan-Russian Relations: Seventy Years of Cooperation 1955–2025). The conference was organized by the Libyan Center for Research and Studies, in cooperation with the Russian House – Tunis, at the Corinthia Hotel. The conference was attended by a wide range of diplomatic, academic, and cultural figures from Libya and Russia.
The official session of the conference opened with the national anthems of Libya and the Russian Federation, followed by welcoming remarks by the head of the preparatory committee, Ms. Hana Al-Maaloul; the head of the scientific committee, Professor Dr. Erwai Qanawi; and the head of the Libyan Center for Research and Studies, Professor Mahmoud Al-Ghatmi.
They all emphasized the importance of this event in studying the history of Libyan-Russian relations and exploring their future prospects. This was followed by a comprehensive speech by Professor Denis Tsypkin, Director of the Russian National Library, who explained the library’s role in supporting scientific and cultural cooperation between the two countries and their willingness to deepen cooperation through training specialists in the protection, restoration, and digitization of manuscripts.
His Excellency the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Libya, Dr. Aidar Aghanin, also delivered a speech on the occasion.
He expressed his appreciation and pride in the historical depth of relations that have united the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic representation in 1955, during the era of the Soviet Union and the Kingdom of Libya. He noted that these relations were not limited to the political aspect alone, but also encompassed broad areas of cultural, scientific, and economic cooperation, which confirms the strong ties between the two peoples.
Mr. Taher Sheikh Islamov, representative of the Russian House in Tunisia, also delivered a speech in which he affirmed the Russian House’s readiness to deepen cultural cooperation with scientific institutions in Libya.
The final speech of the opening session was given by Engineer Salem Al-Qamoudi, President of the Conference, who praised the depth of relations between the Libyan and Russian peoples, a clear evidence of which is the convening of this conference, in which we celebrate seven full decades of these relations. Following this opening session, a ribbon was cut for an exhibition of historical documents, photographs, and rare documents documenting various stages of Libyan-Russian relations. This exhibition was a rich platform for researchers and those interested in historical and cultural affairs.
